River Stages

On the road to the river, you will see this sign showing the river stage in 1927 at 56.2 feet, in 1937 at 53.2 feet, 1922 at 52.5 feet, 1929 at 52 feet, 1973 at 51.6 feet. In 2002 the river was up to 45.5 feet. This covered the field across the road from the park. It came to the edge of the road. The river was out of its banks in 2002 off and on from the end of March until late July. Our road to the river was closed until the second week on August 2002.

You can drive or walk the 1/2 mile paved road to the river. It is a quiet place to think, watch the boats, or just get away from your busy schedule.

When the sun sets on the Mississippi it is like an artist with a new masterpiece every day. Every few seconds it changes:

Photos taken by our Executive Director, Bud Ross. With the click of the camera it changed.
