CONFEDERATE
RIFLE PITS
These are the Rifle Pits which
guard the rear of the Lower Battery and encompass two gun emplacements.
These are some of the best preserved Confederate Rifle Pits due
to the remote location and the presevation efforts of the Grand
Gulf Military Monument Commission.
During the April 29, 1863 bombardment
of Grand Gulf the rifle pits to your lefe were held by the 6th
Missouri (Confederate).
